Groove Dis Exclusive. The dynamic duo from LA return with their second EP for FADE TO MIND. A 7 track EP of "bio-mechanically engineered heavy-hitting club experiments". Somewhere between techno and grime, club music for the post-dubstep world.
From the PITCHFORK review:
“..The songs on Skycell move up and down like dance tracks usually do, but they also move subtly in other dimensions, like the shifts in the rhythm’s center of gravity that give their beats a woozy kind of 3-D effect, and melodies seem to come and go as they please…One of Nguzunguzu’s trademarks is their ability to make sequenced, programmed music sound like a living, breathing thing. The tone of their samples, which often incorporate acoustic, round-edged analog synths, and field recordings (or at least exceptionally good reproductions), is a large part of that. But, additionally, there’s something about Skycell’s synthesis of the technological and the biological that approaches the uncanny—for some reason, the chirping bird that shows up halfway through “Tumultuous” made me think of the human-engineered replica animals in Blade Runner, where the biological and technological combine to make something that’s not quite either. It’s a creepy feeling, one that's fascinating enough to keep revisiting.”
