Groove Dis Exclusive. BEARFUNK's 12 track compilation of re-imagined disco sounds, focusing on new wave, dub, rock, and Afrobeat sounds that create a slower, sleazier type of fun. Cuts from FACTOR 8, ANDROID ROMANCE, JAN KEN PO, KENNY KENI BAND, SALON DE LE'HERBE, TABOR EXPERIENCE DISCO, HEMMINGWAY & JUNCTION.
"Bear Funk are known for devising contemporary new styles of disco, as exemplified by artists like Max Essa, Todd Terje and The Diaphanoids. That said, they've never liked the term nu-disco. "What is Nu disco?" they ask. "It may be 'Nu' by name but in reality it is just an imitation of what has gone before." By comparison, Bear Funk aim to "re-imagine (not re-edit) the disco beat" to come up with something more progressive, hence the title of the new compilation.
The World of Progressive Disco features almost entirely new additions to the Bear Funk stable, including several who make their recording debut on this compilation. Styles range from cosmic disco to Balearic dub to '70s-style rock (The Tobor Experience Disco Experiment contribute a cover of David Bowie's "Station to Station"). Most tunes cruise along at well below 110 beats per minute." -from RESIDENT ADVISOR
